Design Decisions

For Document see Google.DOC

Use pre-existing designs or start from scratch?

Claudia’s:  Bucket Girl and the Sand Castle // Jump when hit bucket (sand jet pack) or float in bucket, paddle with spade. LucasArts Camera?

How do we make her jump?

What else do we need: Spade, animation of hitting head, environment, move cycle.

Is the spade controlled by the mouse? Where we hit her head – and she super jumps? Bucket Girl continuous running…

Or do we control Bucket Girl? and press button to super jump spade hit?

Trailing Different Camera Angles

Movement and JetPack Code

using UnityEngine;
using System.Collections;

public class Movement : MonoBehaviour {

public float movementSpeed = 10f;
public float rotationSpeed = 60f;
public string state = “grounded”;

// Use this for initialization
void Start () {

// Update is called once per frame
void Update () {

float horiz = Input.GetAxis(“Horizontal”) * rotationSpeed * Time.deltaTime;
float vert = Input.GetAxis(“Vertical”) * movementSpeed * Time.deltaTime * 0.4f;

if(Input.GetKey(“space”)) {

state = “jetpacking”;
else if(!Input.GetKey(“space”)) {

state = “grounded”;

if(state == “jetpacking”) {

transform.Translate(0, 1f, 0);

if(Input.GetKey(“r”)) {

Quaternion righting = Quaternion.Euler(0, 0, 0);
transform.rotation = righting;

Making the character stop rotating:

New code for movement:

Set higher speed for rotation, to make smoother movement, and larger jump speed to have more lift (but this is tamed by multiplying it by time.DeltaTime)

Adding a cool down – can’t jump twice under 2 seconds:

Now there is a jump and cool down:

Use w to move forwards and mouse to control horizontal motions.

Claudia prefers mouse based control. Bobbie doesn’t. Bobbie is coding, so she will practice with control.

NEXT – Environment and Level Design

Can we visually show the sand bucket jet pack is powered up? Textures?

Flaring hair, settles when repowered.

Add incentives *sparkle* to lead people around level?

Path or shinney things to follow, as a tutorial level?
